Kidney Stones
Kidney stones are hard mineral deposits that form in the kidneys and can cause intense pain when passing through the urinary tract. They affect 1 in 10 people in their lifetime. Whether you’re dealing with your first stone or suffering from recurrent episodes, we offer expert, minimally invasive solutions to relieve pain, remove stones, and prevent future recurrence.
What is a kidney stone?
Kidney stones, also called renal calculi - vary in size from grains of sand to larger stones that can block urine flow. Stones may stay in the kidney or travel down the ureter, causing sharp, cramping pain—often referred to as renal colic.
Common types include:
Calcium oxalate stones (most common)
Uric acid stones
Struvite stones (often infection-related)
Cystine stones (genetic)
Symptoms may include flank pain, blood in the urine, nausea, urgency, or difficulty urinating. Diagnosis typically involves a CT scan or ultrasound, along with urine and blood tests.
Treatment depends on the size, location, and type of stone. Small stones may pass with hydration and pain control, while larger stones may require:
Ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy
Temporary ureteral stent placement
