Post-Vasectomy Instructions
Activity
Rest for the remainder of the day. Avoid strenuous activity, lifting >15 lbs, or exercise for 7 days.
Gradually resume normal activities after one week as tolerated.
Support & Comfort
Wear snug briefs or compression shorts for the first 5–7 days.
Apply an ice pack to the scrotum for 20 minutes every hour as needed, for the first 24 hours.
Pain Management
Mild soreness or bruising is expected.
Take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) as per instructions on the bottle.
Avoid aspirin for 48 hours unless prescribed.
Hygiene
Shower after 24 hours.
Do not submerge the incision (bath, pool, jacuzzi) for 14 days.
Keep the area clean and dry between showers.
Sexual Activity
Avoid ejaculation and sexual activity for 7 days.
Continue to use contraception until a semen analysis confirms you are sperm-free.
You are not sterile immediately — this typically takes 3 months or 20 ejaculations.
Follow-Up Testing
Utilize the Fellow Mail-in Testing Kit at 3 months. You will be receiving a reminder to perform the test.
The vasectomy is considered successful only after the kit states that you have met passing criteria.
